No more hiding, WhatsApp knows your location and there is a new feature called WhatsApp Live Location which allows you share your location with your friends and groups while chatting with them.
It's good to know that location Sharing is not a new feature in mobile apps because apps like Google Maps, Facebook Messenger, and Snapchat all uses it. It is a great way to let people know where you are, for instance, if you have travelled to a country or city that you are not familiar with. So how do you use this new feature? Well, before that, take this important message.
HOW TO GET WHATSAPP LIVE LOCATION FEATURES
Note that this feature has just being announced and could take few days before reaching everywhere. All you need to do now is to keep tabs on the latest Whatsapp update via playstore for Android users and iTunes for iOS users. Once there is a new update, just click on "update" to get it.
HOW TO USE WHATSAPP LIVE LOCATION
Once the WhatsApp live location (location sharing) is available on the app, follow below steps to use it;
✔ Open a chat with the person you want to share with
✔️ Under “Location” in the attach button, there’s a new option to “Share Live Location.”
✔️ Choose for how long you want to share and tap send
Hurray! By doing this, you have just sent your real-time location on a map to the recipient. Think of it working the same way your Uber driver is able to locate you (and vice-versa).

USING LIVE LOCATION ON WHATSAPP GROUPS
WhatsApp Location Sharing works for groups as well, so you can share your location with a group you are chatting with and every one in that group will see your location same way. If multiple people in the group share their locations, all those locations will be visible on the same map. Nice.

The most important is WhatsApp Live Location has end-to-end encrypted feature which lets you control who you share with and for how long. You can choose to stop sharing at any time or let the Live Location timer simply expire. Live Location is available for Android smartphones and iPhones.
Meanwhile, if you don't want your location to be tracked by WhatsApp, you just have to simply turn off location services from your phone settings. What's your thoughts on this?

Nice update though
ReplyDeleteI don't understand ooo
ReplyDeleteNice update
ReplyDeleteThe live location is good
ReplyDeleteWell its partially good but security reason matters alot o. I will be sharing some of the disadvantages involved with sharing location
ReplyDeleteWhy is this a bad thing? Let’s take a look at several reasons why sharing your current, future, or past location could be dangerous:
ReplyDelete1. It Tells People Where You Are
When you post a status update, picture, etc, you are tagging your current location. This tells people where you are right now. Depending on your privacy settings, this information could potentially go out to millions of strangers. Even if you only have this information set to be shared with your “friends”, you can’t guarantee that this information won’t find its way to non-friends or total strangers.
2. It Tells People Where You Aren’t
ReplyDeleteNot only does your status information tell somebody where you currently are, it also tells them where you aren’t. This information can be just as dangerous in the hands of criminals,
3. It May Reveal Where Your Valuables Are Located
ReplyDeleteWhen you take a picture with your Smartphone, you may not realize it, but you are also likely recording the exact GPS location of whatever you happen to be taking a picture of.
4. It May Reveal Information About Other People You Are With:
ReplyDeleteWe’ve learned a little bit about location privacy and why it’s important. You should also consider the safety of people who are with you when you snap that geotagged picture or when you tag them in a status update from a joint vacation. Tagging them puts them with you and is dangerous for the same reasons mentioned above
Uche Festus You can avoid having your location shared when you are not willing to.
ReplyDeleteThe WhatsApp live Location tracking is used by many people for different purposes but, no matter why you need to use it, it’s always useful.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the informative update
ReplyDeleteNo matter the enormous amount of disadvantages as enumerated here by our bro, this feature has lots of advantages and I'm truly impressed with it
ReplyDeleteWhatsApp announced on Wednesday that it’s adding live location sharing, making it easier to find your friends in real life with the Facebook-owned messaging app. It’s also great for sharing your commute so people know when you’ll arrive and that you’re safe.
ReplyDeleteYou may already be able to share your live location on WhatsApp (it currently works on my phone). To do it, open a conversation with a friend or group and tap on the plus button in the bottom left corner. Select Location and then tap on Share Live Location. You can decide how long you want to share (15 minutes, 1 hour or 8 hours) and add a comment if you want before confirming.
ReplyDeleteAre you also aware that just like messaging and calling on Snapchat, sharing your location is protected by end-to-end encryption. You can also turn it off at any time you want.
ReplyDeleteBut let's ask ourselves this simple question, why is it whenever a new feature is introduced we always tend to look into the negative side of it rather than exploring the positive sides?
ReplyDeleteAnd let's not forget that it's not a must that we turn our location on or share it with people.
ReplyDeleteIt's an optional thing so to say.
@uche Uche Festus Youcan avoid havingyour location shared when you dont want to
