WhatsApp has introduced a new Feature called "WhatsApp Status", a feature copied from Snapchat but it will really add more swag to the worlds most popular IM app.
Recall that Instagram also introduced the ‘feature stories’ copied from snapchat and today whatsapp has announced a new feature that let you express yourself using a short video, image or gif.
HOW IT WORKS
This brand new feature "WhatsApp Status" will allow you to share photos, videos, and GIFs as your status(i.e. stories) which will automatically vanish in 24 hours. Last year November, this feature was rolled out to better testers.
As mentioned earlier, the status update will expire after 24 hours, and is also said to be encrypted end-to-end. Facebook has also started testings, a “Stories” section of their mobile app. In a blog post, Jan Koum, co founder of WhatsApp made the announcement: in his words...
Once you are fully using this feature, you will have the ability to control who sees your statuses. Starting with Netherlands and France, the feature will start rolling out for both iOS and Android today with other markets to follow.
Honestly, WhatsApp isn't relenting in the quest to remain as worlds largest instant messaging app.

We are excited to announce that, coinciding with WhatsApp’s 8th birthday on February 24, we are reinventing the status feature. Starting today, we are rolling out an update to status, which allows you to share photos and videos with your friends and contacts on WhatsApp in an easy and secure way. Yes, even your status updates are end-to-end encrypted.
